Momma Your Son Monday 3.30 “Dear Woman, here is your son!” and “Here is your mother!” (John 19:26-27). “I Love You Mom” I mean he was the eldest son. It would have been his responsibility to see after his momma. But he was on the cross. He was God. It’s true, she had been the vessel through which he came, but he made her. He knew her, and her grandma times a hundred and three, before they were conceived (number made up). Yet, there we see the great God and the love of the Savior, dealing with the universe, but still holding the individual in his hand. My momma is in heaven. The one thing I wish that while she was on earth that I spent more time with her. Seems I was always working, going back and forth from Jersey, to Delaware, and then to DC. I did see her most every Sunday in church but that’s not the same. Jesus with the whole of humanity---past, present, and future---on his mind is still thinking about his momma. John is the only disciples with him standing at the cross. John loves for the master has pushed him through all conceivable fear. The fact that he is there with Mary may speak not only for the love of the Savior, but for the woman that weaned him. John who leaned on Jesus [sounds like a song] at supper was there as comfort for Jesus’ mother. Forget about some painter’s foolishness about the last supper or some femininity claims about John, or who was really at the table. DaVinci got the picture all wrong any way. They weren’t at a rectangular table with Jesus in the middle. They reclined on pillows. Jesus was probably more so at the end. The two people next to him as his inner crew ate were John---who loved him, and Judas---who was seeking to portray him. Hmmmmm---guess who was at dinner? And should we all operate in that kind of love that the ignorant confuse with perversion and immorality. This is the love that a man would have such care for his friend, brother and their family. This kind of love wishes above all things that those they love prosper and be in health as their spirit prospers. Another John---formally Jonathan, loved Jesus ancestor King David that way. This kind of love is called covenant. It says, what is mine is your and vice versa. It says I am for you. It says, If you are ever in a fight, I will be your rearguard and shield---if need be. It’s says, I will never abuse you or your family. And, I will never dishonor your name. This is perhaps for another post article. I have heard those who have made it financially say sometimes, they don’t like it when family or friends come around, because they always want something. Jesus and the Father have a quite different flow. God knows people who come to Him always want something. Truthfully, He welcomes it. God just wants us to desire Him above the stuff and needs. He knows that if we truly desire Him, we’ll have the stuff. Jesus gave more than stuff. He gave himself to the whole world. He took care of Momma also. And, Oh the honor, John must have had, to take care of and provide for the little lady that birthed the Savior of the world.
